    28. He was making fun of Atticus.
    29. Tom Robinson, he’s defending him because it affects his personal life.
    30. Atticus told her not to fight with her fists but with her mind.
    31. Francis says that no one wants Dill because he moves to different family members houses constantly.
    32. She curses and punches Francis after he told her to never speak that way again.
    33. That he doesn’t know anything about children.
    34. He shoots at Tim Johnson and he was one of the best shooters when he was young.
    35. Killing a Mocking bird is a sin because Mocking birds don’t cause any harm to anything or anyone, they just sing their hearts out.
    36. He cut the top off her Camellias.
    37. She was criticizing Atticus about the court case.
    38. He has to read to her everyday after school and on Saturdays.
    39. That use to be addicted to Morphine.

    41. Her way of telling him everything is going to be okay.
    42. He says having courage is “when you’re licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what.” Basically saying that you still continue with what you’re doing even though you know you might not succeed.
    43. Atticus exhibits this courage by taking this court case and not caring if he’s called a “negro lover”. Scout also exhibits this courage by continuing to defend her father meanwhile she knows that everyone in the town, school and her family say it’s wrong.

He shows courage by taking Jem to Atticus, going into the house, staying in the seat, touching Jem, and allowing Scout to touch him and later walk home with him. and Scout demonstrates courage. She is very much her father’s daughter but a little bit rough around the eadges. She speaks up for what she thinks is right or wrong and does not back down when someone makes fun of her.

Scout defends her dad when people make comments about him that she doesn’t like, and Atticus decides to defend Tom Robinson even if he is a negro and knows that it will effect him.

    2. Tom Robinson is Atticus’s latest clients. He decides to defend Mr. Robinson for the sake of justice and self-respect.

    3. Atticus told Scout not to fight for him when people start saying bad things about him.

    4. This is a hypocritical statement from Francis because he is a boring kid that no one wants to hang out with, while Jem and Scout look forward to hanging out with Dill.

    5. Scout started cursing at and fighting with Francis because Francis called Atticus a “ni–ger lover”.

    6. Uncle Jack learned Scout’s side of the story (telling him what Francis said and that she promised her dad that she wouldn’t start fights to defend Atticus).

    7. There is a rabid dog running around the neighborhood. Calpurnia calls Atticus, who then comes home with the sheriff. The sheriff hands his gun to Atticus and Atticus shoots the rabid dog with a perfect shot from a difficult position. He used to be called “One-Shot Finch” because of his perfect shots with a gun.

    8. Basically, what they mean by “it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird” is that mockingbirds are innocent, harmless animals. The mockingbird is a symbol that represents Tom Robinson (which will be explained further throughout the book) and other black people that have been sentenced to death when they were actually innocent.

    9. Jem takes a baton and smashes Mrs. Dubose’s camellias.

    10. Jem lost his temper when Mrs. Dubose yelled from her porch at Jem and Scout that Atticus is “no better than the “ni–ers and trash that he works for”.

    11. As punishment, Jem has to read to Mrs. Dubose everyday for a month.

    12. The children learn that Mrs. Dubose was addicted to morphine and being read-to helped her fight the addiction.

    13. Mrs. Dubose left Jem a box with a single white camellia.

    14. Atticus defines courage as “when you’re licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what”.

    15. Atticus displays this courage by defending a black man in a courtroom full of bias white people.

    Mrs. Dubose displays this courage by trying to defeat her morphine addiction.

    30) She walks away because Atticus told her to be the bigger person and to just not pay attention
    31) This is a hypocritical statement because that is how francis feels about herself
    32) she beats up francis again after a comment said to dill
    33) Uncle Jack finds out later that Francis made a comment which made scout angry
    34) A ferocious dog appears in the main street of the finch’s home and the sheriff tells atticus shoot the dog with the rifle and jem and scout witness atticus shoot at the dog
    35) They tell them this because The mocking bird symbolizes something innocent and to kill something innocent is to have no heart therefore they tell them this because in reality it is a sin
    36) Jem takes a baton from Scout and wrecks all of Mrs.Dubose’s camellia bushes
    37) Jem does this because of the rude comment Mrs>dubose said to scout and gem
    38) Jem must go to her house everyday and read to her for a month

    42) he defines courage by making friends with your enemies and moving on with differences and becoming allies

    1. She doesn’t bet him up, she walks away because she knows she too old to do things like that, also Atticus would wear her out if he found out she was fighting.
    2. Atticus’s latest client is Tom Robinson. Atticus decides to defend him even though he knows he’s going to lose the case. He wants to give Tom a chance.
    3. She walks away because if she fought Cecil she would let Atticus down and Atticus rarely asked her to do something for him.
    4. This is hypocritical statement because HIS own parents don’t even spend time with him, they leave him with his grandparents.
    5. Scout hits Francis in the mouth, which in return provokes her uncle. It was also because Francis said Scout called him a ” whore lady “.
    6. Uncle Jack learns that he’s not very good with children, also learned not to make assumptions.
    7. Atticus shots the rabid dog with one shot, this surprises Jem and Scout, thinking their father wouldn’t be capable of doing it.
    8. They tell Scout it’s a sin to kill a Mockingbird because Mockingbirds don’t harm anybody, just chirp songs. This foreshadows what is going to happen to Tom later on in the book.
    9. Jem grabs Scouts baton and began cutting the tops off every camellia bush Mrs. Dubose owned.
    10. Jem does this because she was insulting Atticus which triggered him.
    11. Jem has to read to her for two hours and help the plants grow back again.
    12. Mrs. Dubose leaves a white, waxy, perfect camellia. Which was in a candy box.

    33. Uncle Jack learns that Scout had a reason to hit Francis.

    34. Jem and Scout are somewhat disappointed that Atticus is not as athletic as some other fathers. But they change their minds when he shots that dog, he has really good aim.
    35.It is a sin to kill a mockingbird because they dont do anything wrong they only sing.

    Chapter 11:
    36. Jem destroys all the tops of Mrs. Dubose’s camellia bushes.
    37. Jem does this to Mrs. Dubose because shes always yelling at them and because she started talking trash about the Tom Robinson Case.
    38. Because of this Jem has to read her every afternoon for a month.
    39. After Mrs. Dubose dies, the children learn that their visits was helping Mrs. Dubose break away from her morphine addiction even though she knew she was going to die.
    40. Mrs. Dubose leaves Jem a candy box with a white camelia inside.
    41. Atticus thinks she left this for Jem because
    42. Atticus defines courage as recognizing you’re going to lose the battle but continue fighting with all your strength.
    43. Two characters who exhibit this courage is Mrs. Dubose because she knew she was going to die but she kept fighting to break free from her addiction, another character is Atticus who knows that hes going to lose the case but he still fights for justice

    29. Atticus latest client is Tom Robinson and he decided to defend this man to up hold his sense of justice & self respect.
    30. Because she remembered what Atticus said to her and learned to hold in.
    31. I think this is ironic because no one wants Francis. His parents like to get rid of him for Christmas so they can go do what they want to without a kid.
    32. Scout curses out Francis and beats him up which caused Uncle Jack to reprimand her.
    33. Uncle Jack learns that Francis said about Atticus calling him ”nigger lover” from Scout.

    35. It means and it reflects on the book’s preoccupation with injustices inflicted upon innocents.

    36. Jem takes a baton from Scout and destroys all of Mrs.Dubose’s camellia bushes.
    37. Jen does this to Mrs. Dubose because she told Jem and Scout that Atticus is not any better than the ”niggers and trash he works for”
    38. Jem must go to her house everyday for a month and read to her.
    39. They learn that she was addicted Morphine and that the reading was part of her successful effort to combat this addiction.
    40. Mrs.Dubose leaves Jem a box and in it lies a single whole camellia.
    41. Atticus thinks she left this for Jem because it was her way of telling Jem everything’s alright now Jem.
    42. Atticus defines courage when he explains as ”when you know you’re licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what.”
    43. Atticus, who defends Tom Robinson despite knowing Tom will be pronounced guilty; Ms. Dubose, who attempts to break her morphine addiction before her death.
